In addition to providing economical cooling comfort, Carrier room air conditioners filter and dehumidify the air in the room. This owner’s guide will supply all the information you need to install, operate, and maintain your new air conditioning unit. Please read the entire manual before installing the unit. See Fig. 1 for a part identification and description of the unit. The air conditioner installation is different for smaller and larger models. The small air conditioners are 5,000 to 8,000 Btus. The large air conditioners are 10,000 to 14,000 Btus. The wall installation is more permanent and does not affect the use of a window in the room, but more complicated construction work is required. The window installation is less complicated and does not require a hole be cut in the wall, but the use of the window where it is installed is limited. For your safety, this air conditioner is grounded through the power cord plug when plugged into a matching wall outlet. The power cord on 5,000 to 8,000 Btu units is 72-in. long. The power cord on 10,000 to 14,000 Btu units is 62-in. long.
